Bank Holiday weekend rolls around once again, and Friday brings a much needed day off work (when i say much needed, i mean i'd previously had 2 4-day weeks in a row so.. why not have another eh?).
Unfortunately a day off normally comes at a price for me these days. It's come to the point now where a day off work simply means i have to use my time doing things i can't do whilst at work or at the weekend. In this instance, taking the motor to Honda for a 2nd Year service. Last weekend i received a reminder from the garage telling me to get it booked in so they could carry out the service as scheduled. Having spotted the Service Desk was open till 1pm on a Saturday i phone them straight up like the money-bleeding mug i am, only to be told: "the Service Department is closed at weekends, can you call back on Monday?". When asked why i received a letter telling me Service was open today i was promptly told "oh, well, we've had to make changes.. so the workshop isn't open on a Saturday now". So the letter was posted on Thursday, and by the time i get it on Saturday morning, the entire rota has been changed? Colour me dubious.
So, it seems a day off was required, no complaints from me.. until i arrive to pick my car up. "We've gave it a mini-valet for you sir... that'll be £249.79" It seems my bloody wallet got as good a rinsing as my car did. £250 to change the oil and hose it down, at the time i did find it a little unprofessional they were all wearing Dick Turpin masks, but it all clicked into place when i got the bill. Main Dealers?! more like bloody Stealers.
Off to Circus Friday night. The longer i play, the more i seem to find people who defend their blind to the hilt. Friday was no exception. I was told at one point "my big blind again, im gonna catch you like". It was at this point i decide to play quite loose, raising in position and often, with marginal hands, and specifically his big blind.
Luckily i only seemed to get any action when i actually had the goods, but eventually got caught with my (eventually busted) flush draw by someone (who 'the Sensation' earlier described quite colourfully to say the least) who had bottom pair (8s) on the flop, despite me raising pre, c-betting the flop, check raising the turn and pushing the river... obviously my hand rankings need updated as soon as possible, J8 off is seemingly a monster these days. The sound of "ughhh i'm beat" as he called my all-in were met with a shake of my head and a simple reply of "umm, no you're not mate", much to the delight of 'the Defender' who clearly thought i'd overstayed my welcome, i wished them all good luck and head off into the night (in a 'not as clean as it fcking should be for a two-fifty spot' Civic). Someone once said "Defence wins Championships".. unfortunately they weren't talking about Poker.
Off to Aspers on Bank Holiday Monday and hit the ground running with pocket kings straight out the traps and a few hands in i think this could be a good one. A few well timed moves (and one not so well timed), a hero call with bottom pair blind against blind, and a timely double up with 11 left (courtesy of my new favourite Circus Dealer) saw me through to chop it up 3 ways which capped off a fun weekend, and just.. almost... paid for my service.
Back to the drawing board (literally)

where did ya finish in the snooker?
ReplyDeletelol, you'll have to make a long distance call to our mam to find that out
ReplyDeleteThem Honda fuckers know how to charge like. You did forget to mention your rather snazzy spare oil holder in the boot, that must be with at least a 100-spot. Oh and J-8 is a monster, don't forget it.
ReplyDeleteOh ai, forgot all about the zip-up oil pouch, best not let Varzee see it though, he'll have it as a bumbag
