The Biggest City in the World

Been a while since i blogged so ill give you a bit of an update on the poker front. Last Thursday was league night once again, and after a couple of shocking performances i need to get some points in the bag.

Seeing George (Trett, the league leader) go out nice and early gave me a bit more enthusiasm, and i find myself at the final table alongside Tubbs and fellow team member Dave Mount. Having previously agreed a one-two chop with Farmer Dave i was pleased to see us both make the final 3, unfortunately for us, the plan didnt quite go as we wished, the big stack at the table having such a huge advantage over our combined 12BBs. Dave crashes out 3rd, and i ultimately go all in blind the next hand. The cards are dealt face up.. and as happy as i was with 2nd place points (and money) 82 off-suit vs pocket queens is a bit of a kick in the teeth none the less. Cheers.

Friday night at the Grosvenor sees me play like an absolute maniac and after raising pre-flop on the button with Js9s someone finds the hero inside him to check-call my 2200 shove (into a pot of 900) on a Qs 4s Jc flop with pocket twos. "Wow". Drawing to one card, the two of hearts on the turn makes me laugh as yet another hero move gone wrong is rewarded with a one outta, well played sire.

Saturday, and its off to the £75 game at Circus, despite saying i wasn't playing all week. I get my chips in behind nice and early with AK vs KK to spike an ace on the turn for a quick double up which gives me plenty to play with. Down to 18 im in good shape, but im left crippled after flopping top pair from the BB, but being met with heavy resistance from the only pre-flop limper, i have to give it up. Somewhat ironically, my AK vs 78 finally killing me off as Dom rivers a straight. Little did i know this tourny would be chopped 10 ways, although i'm not entirely sure why that should ever happen, or if it should be allowed for that matter, meh.

Sunday (i don't think i play enough poker these days) sees me roll into Aspers for the afternoon game and again play like a maniac early on to accumulate a stack. Limp-reraising UTG with Q4 offsuit, check-reraising a raised flop with 7 high, etc etc all working quite well in getting my stack up to a playable level. Final table time and i eliminate the first 3 players with holdings of Q9 and QQ (yes, 3 players in two hands) and by the time 11:30pm rolls around, we see 3rd place eliminated and a chop is agreed fairly quickly for £335 each.

So, a bit of a mixed bag really, two decent performances, and two shoddy ones.. Felt quite pleased with myself to have chopped the Aspers game, having no real hands of note until the final table, only to arrive home to find out Buzz was absolutely crushing down at DTD for a nice £10k payday. Big Big Big congratulations to Neil, couldn't have happened to a nicer lad, even if he did get extremely unlucky to go out in 3rd place.

Off to Dublin next week to play (hopefully) alongside Liv Boree in the IPO with a few of the lads, should be a crackin' weekend away. If any of us cash it will be an added bonus.. actually, with a potential £50,000 1st prize, it'll be a fucking huge bonus.

League night again tonight, sitting in 2nd place overall, i could use another decent result.. even if that does mean a 4am finish... sigh.
